A Colchester High tradition has been the annual Gingerbread House contest. Classes throughout the school have the opportunity to create the most impressive Gingerbread creation and then have them donated to many organizations throughout the community to bring cheer and the season’s spirit to others. There are two categories: traditional (100% edible) and Open (at least 75% edible). It is just one more small, but important way students extend themselves to their larger community. Organizations who have benefitted from these works of art are Cathedral Square, Heineberg Senior Housing, McAuley Square, Ruggles House, Holy Cross Senior Housing, Whitcomb Woods, Grandway Commons, Ronald McDonald House, Starr Farm Nursing Home, COTS Fire House Shelter, and Vermont Children’s Hospital.
