A Colchester High tradition has been the annual Gingerbread House contest. Classes throughout the school have the opportunity to create the most impressive Gingerbread creation and then have them donated to many organizations throughout the community to bring cheer and the season’s spirit to others. There are two categories: traditional (100% edible) and Open (at least 75% edible). It is just one more small, but important way students extend themselves to their larger community. Organizations who have benefitted from these works of art are Cathedral Square, Heineberg Senior Housing, McAuley Square, Ruggles House, Holy Cross Senior Housing, Whitcomb Woods, Grandway Commons, Ronald McDonald House, Starr Farm Nursing Home, COTS Fire House Shelter, and Vermont Children’s Hospital.
Middle School and High School Band and Choral Groups Host Winter Concerts
Colchester residents have the opportunity to share the holiday spirit and see the CSD chorus and band programs at several upcoming events. The concerts are free and open to the public.
The Colchester Middle School band will hold its first performance of the year on Thursday, December 10 at 7:00 pm in the CMS gymnasium. The CMS Winter Band Concert will feature the CMS 6th grade band, the 7th and 8th grade band, and the jazz band.
The Colchester Middle School chorus will host its Winter Choral Concert on Thursday, December 17 at 7:00 pm in the CMS gymnasium. The CMS Choral Concert will feature the 6th grade chorus, the 7th and 8th grade chorus and the select choir, singing classic songs and new contemporary arrangements of winter favorites.
The CHS Winter Concert will be held on Sunday, December 20 at 2 pm in the Colchester High School Theatre. This concert will feature the CHS concert and jazz bands as well as several choral ensembles, including the CHS all-male ensemble. FCM will host a reception following the CHS Winter Concert.
