CMS Captures First Place in Odyssey Competition

The Colchester Middle School Odyssey of the Mind Team took First Place in their division at the Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament, which was held on Saturday 3/21 at Champlain Valley High School. They are a Division II team and competed on Problem 1: “Runaway Train” Vehicle Problem.

The CMS students on the team are: Oliver Alvarez, Cole Fenton, Alex Hall, Quinn Holly, Ayden Lloyd-Newberry, Logan Mock and Kyrill Serdyuk.

The coaches are Christine Lloyd-Newberry and Nancy Mock. 1st place OOTM (2)

As the First Place winners for their division, the team will now travel to Michigan State University in May to compete in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals. Teams from all over the country and the world will compete at the finals, which is a three-day event. The boys are busy fundraising in hopes of receiving enough donations to cover their travel and registration costs.

They have an online donation site, here at Crowdrise.com.

Fundraising events for the team that have been scheduled so far are:

-A Bottle drive: folks can bring their returnables to Cap N’ Cork on Porters Point Road and request that the money be donated to the CMS Odyssey Team.

-A percentage night at Three Brother’s Pizza on Wednesday April 15th: 10% of the proceeds from that day will go to the CMS Odyssey Team.

-A raffle for a new recliner from Wendell’s Furniture with the proceeds going to the CMS Odyssey Team.
