CSD Education Spending Open Houses

The Colchester School District invites Colchester citizens to two Education Spending Open House sessions at the Bayside Activity Center, 2 West Lakeshore Drive at 6pm on October 23rd and 30th, 2014.

The intent of these sessions is not to debate budget dollars, but first to come to an understanding of how dollars are spent in your school district and how those monies are raised and allocated statewide. Second, how will the district meet the emerging and future needs of students and families preparing for life in a global economy and workplace? Our intent is to keep the sessions to no longer than 1.5 hours but we will endeavor to satisfy the understanding and needs of participants each evening. Our hope is that a wide cross-section of participants and viewpoints will meet to discuss the essential questions of Colchester and Vermont education today. We believe that many voices make for a strong and responsive system and working together we can chart a course forward for our children, families and community.

Session #1 on Thursday October 23rd 6 to 7:30pm

Seeks to address the following questions:

Where does the Colchester School District Budget money go?

Where do statewide education dollars come from?

Who pays education taxes and how are they computed?

Why do local budget cuts not have the tax rate impact we expect?

Session #2 on Thursday October 30th 6 to 7:30pm

Seeks to address the following questions:

What does the community want the CSD system to do?

What does the current CSD curriculum offer?

Where does the CSD stand in comparison with neighbor districts?

What is the way forward for the Colchester School District?

The District is encouraging all citizens, current Colchester legislative officeholders and candidates for legislative office to attend.
