Yet again, and as part of our ongoing effort to support wellness in Colchester School District, students at Malletts Bay School stepped off to participate in International Walk to School Day on October 9.
The MBS Ospreys also had a lot of support from more than fifty St. Michael’s College Purple Knights athletes—and mascot Mike the Knight—who turned out in droves to cheer the Ospreys on.

The Partnership for a Walkable America created Walk to School Day in 1997 in order to build awareness about the need for walkable communities, and it has since grown to involve participants all over the world.
MBS has been a partner with Vermont Safe Routes to School—a program aimed at increasing such activities—since 2009. The October 9 festivities were part of CSD’s ongoing effort to support wellness in our community, as is noted in the Colchester School District Vision and Strategic Plan 2012–2017.
More Vermont schools than ever before participated in this event; please click here to read a WCAX article about it.
Many, many thanks to the Purple Knights for their help in making the event so much fun for the students, and many thanks to all of our many parents and community participants, as well!
