This is very big news!
Colchester School District Superintendent Larry Waters and Town of Colchester Town Manager Dawn Francis proudly announce the launch of a unified, collaborative communications initiative between their two organizations.
What does this mean for you?
It means that citizens now have a unified source for information about their schools and their town in one convenient place! Subscribers and visitors to the blog will receive information from both organizations. So please help us spread the word, and please encourage your friends and neighbors to subscribe! You will notice that the name of this blog has changed from CSD Spotlight to The Spotlight; this is in acknowledgment of our united front. (The domain name and URL will remain the same in order to avoid confusion.)
The Colchester School District Vision and Strategic Plan 2012–2017, the Town of Colchester’s Heritage Project, and the Town of Colchester’s Economic Development Action Plan all promote a commitment to unification and collaboration across Colchester’s municipal organizations. This important partnership, which is effective July 1, 2013, establishes the first formal link between the school district and the town government for the benefit of all Colchester citizens.
As part of the arrangement, which builds upon the school district’s existing communications initiatives, the district and the town government will join forces in streamlining a communications platform that seeks to enhance citizens’ access to information about the organizations’ projects, programming, and current events and to increasingly encourage community involvement and strong community partnerships. The school district will now offer town government information on its blog, and a regular publication providing news and updates about both organizations will be distributed to residents to proffer breadth and consistency in information and understanding. Further communications strategies in addition to the wide variety already in use are also in development.
“We are responding to what we hear from our community,” Waters said. “One of the pathways in our strategic plan specifically addresses the need for collaboration between the schools and the town. This arrangement will strengthen that pathway.”
“During my first two months of meeting with Colchester residents, I have heard loud and clear that people want more information about what is happening in our community,” Francis said. “We hope this cooperative effort will address that need.”
