In a recent unanimous (9–0) decision, the Vermont State Board of Education (SBE) adopted the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), joining Rhode Island, Kansas, Kentucky, and Maryland in adopting these standards.
Based on the National Research Council’s Framework for K-12 Science Education, the NGSS are voluntary, internationally benchmarked, and were written collaboratively by teachers across the nation. They are designed to enhance the cohesion of science education, emphasizing hands-on exploration and critical analysis while also aligning with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
