Porters Point School students recently had a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with sled dogs as part of a larger study of the Iditarod and Alaska.

Christopher Hayes with Vapor Trail Sled Dogs recently met with second-grade students from the classrooms of Mrs. Benjamin, Mrs. Bissonnette, Mrs. Hooper, and Ms. LaRose at PPS to introduce his team of sled dogs and to talk about the Iditarod.
The experience offered the students a better understanding of some of Alaska’s cultural traditions and helped them to make comparisons and connections to Vermont. It also provided an engaging opportunity to gain a clearer understanding of the origins and challenges of the Iditarod.
Pathway C: Learning Outside Our Four Walls and Pathway E: Parent, Community, and School Partnerships Among Lifelong Learners are among the Colchester School District Vision and Strategic Plan 2012–2017‘s pathways.
