As the nation and the world become aware of the horrific violence that occurred in Newtown, Connecticut, earlier today, we want to reach out with information and resources about ways to talk with your children about what happened.
Please be aware that our students were not informed about the tragedy during school today; however, we strongly encourage you to talk with your child about it in a developmentally and age-appropriate way. Please see “Talking to Children about Violence: Information for Parents and Educators” for help. You may also access this information online here.
Please also be aware that the HowardCenter offers First Call for Children and Families, a twenty-four-hour crisis helpline, at (802) 488-7777 to offer assistance in dealing with trauma and crisis. To learn more about First Call, please visit www.howardcenter.org/First-Call-Home.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this terrible event.
