As part of her efforts to incorporate financial literacy into CHS’s school-wide curriculum, Principal Amy Minor has coordinated with the Vermont State Treasurer’s Office to stage an “Ask the Experts” event on Thursday, September 15 in the CHS library at 11:00 a.m.
The event, designed to educate students about financial issues and to encourage dialogue about it between parents and their children, will feature Vermont State Treasurer’s Director of Financial Literacy Lisa Helme, Vermont State Treasurer Elizabeth Pearce, People’s United Bank Vermont President Michael Seaver, Vermont Jump$tart Coalition President Gregg Mousley, and Colchester High School Principal Amy Minor.
This is a proactive and innovative approach to encouraging discussion and understanding of financial literacy. Approximately fifty students from CHS’s consumer math and economics classes will have the opportunity to learn the answers to some of their toughest financial questions, helping to prepare them for their future money management responsibilities.
This really is quite a unique and excellent opportunity for our students. It is no secret that understanding the complexities of finances can be challenging even in a healthy economic climate. Our current economic situation is such that opportunities for learning about financial matters are even more critically important. Kudos to Colchester High School for coordinating and spearheading such a valuable program for our students!
