Welcome, New Educators!

The start of the school year is always a really exciting time—particularly for students and educators who are new to the district. We’ve already introduced Colchester Middle School’s new principal, Dawn Gruss, as well as Colchester High School’s new assistant principal, Peter Memoli. We have a number of other new faces among our educators for you to meet, as well, and we will introduce them to you intermittently as we kick off the new year.

Introducing Colchester Middle School’s Julia Melloni and Dovid Yagoda!

Julia Melloni teaches science and humanities at Colchester Middle School

A native New Yorker now living in Burlington with her spouse and their three daughters, Ms. Melloni spent a number of years in radio and television, and she also worked as a correspondent for the Burlington Free Press. She is an open water swimmer, and she completed a five-mile swim challenge in August to raise funds for the Y’s adaptive swim programs. In fact, her entire family travels the USA Swimming circuit, competing in pools up and down the East Coast.

Having earned a master of arts degree in curriculum and instruction through the University of Vermont, and as a swim coach and fitness instructor at the Y, Julia has worked with children and families for over twenty years. She looks forward to taking this love of adolescents into the classroom at Colchester Middle School.

We also welcome Dovid Yagoda as CMS’s second assistant principal. Mr. Yagoda, who has a master’s degree in education—specifically in curriculum development and design—has been a licensed science teacher for seventeen years and has taught at Missisquoi Valley Union Middle School, Rice Memorial High School, the Baird School, and Essex Middle School. He has also been with Colchester School District for several years in various capacities, including as a long-term substitute, as the dean of students at CMS, and Colchester High School’s Planning Room teacher.

Mr. Yagoda and his spouse have two little boys, ages 5 and 7. In the summer, he runs a sea kayak company and give tours and lessons on Lake Champlain. He is also an avid runner, camper, and snowboarder. He looks forward to having a role at CMS that can bring out the truly great things that are happening there.

Welcome, Julia and Dovid! And stay tuned for more introductions in the coming days and weeks.
