In May, we talked about the work that dedicated volunteers are doing with the gardens at Malletts Bay School.
The gardening group is making tremendous progress in what has collectively already been hundreds of hours in planning, organizing, and physical exertion. Truly, the area is being transformed in leaps and bounds. The most recent workdays have resulted in raised beds, new trellises, an asparagus fence, a bamboo teepee, new plantings and mulching, and a lot of weeding. In addition to the flowers they’ve planted, the group members have designed the garden to include cucumbers, a variety of squashes and beans, and pumpkins, among other edibles.
The planning team consists of Bobbi Abbott, Cheryl Aley, Jeanette Berry, Jane Blin, Rick and Holli-Jo Brigante, Libby Davidson, Melissa Davis, Kate DeCoff, Andrea and George Hayes, Alicia Jacobs, Sally Kieny, Donna LeClair, Liz Miles, Eileen Moore, Lisa Roach, and Sue Wear, and many other volunteers of all ages have joined in the fun, rolled up their sleeves, and helped to revolutionize this space into a work of art.
This lovely courtyard garden can be found behind the EEE playground with the chain-link fence. It truly is an example of community spirit and of what can happen when enthusiastic people with a shared vision come together.
