PPS to Host Project Inside Out June 7–10

This year’s Project Inside Out at Porters Point School will run from June 7–10!

Project Inside Out is a hugely successful and eagerly anticipated annual event dating back thirty years, growing from just two classrooms and a handful of volunteers to a school-wide event with vast community involvement. Originally devised by teachers Brenda Bristol and Kerry Plunkett, the event provides students with the opportunity to select from a wide assortment of activities related to their year-long learning to enjoy outside in the fresh air and sunshine. Students explore their interests in a lively, supportive environment and gain exposure to activities they might otherwise not, reflecting upon their projects through twice-daily journal writing. Project Inside Out provides a fun and creative alternative outlet for students at the school year’s end—a memorable and exciting way to kick off summer vacation.

The community support for this annual tradition is immense. Local businesses have contributed materials and supplies over the years, and the Colchester Police Department teaches bike safety and runs the bike rodeo. Colchester Rescue provided lifeguards for little swimmers in years past and offered other assistance, as well, and over one hundred staff members, parents, and other members of the community also help out with this program. Vermont musician Jon Gailmor provided entertainment for a number of years, and some volunteers even provide child care for preschool-aged children so that more parents can participate. Collectively, all of this community support and energy helps to make this program a smashing success.
