Students at Colchester Middle School had an opportunity to meet one of their heroines of literature on April 28.
Margaret Peterson Haddix, a multiple award-winning author of children’s books, visited the CMS library for a day of presentations. Her visit included sessions with all the houses, an interview by two student reporters, and opportunities for students to purchase her books and have them autographed. As part of her presentations, she explained to the students how she gets the ideas and inspiration for her many books.
For the last three years, the entire school had read at least one book written by a particular author as part of an initiative that results in that author visiting the school. In this way, students can better engage with the author, and they enjoy the visit much more. Haddix’s novels are among the most popular titles for teens, and they have been used as the school-wide read at CMS this year. The students had been looking forward all year to the chance to meet and hear one of their most beloved authors.
