The Vermont Department of Education (VT DOE) recently conducted a “Focused Monitoring Review” of the Colchester School District.
The purpose of such monitoring is to improve educational and functional results for children with disabilities and to ensure that program requirements are met. This monitoring was not a result of any deficiencies.
The results of the monitoring were very positive. The VT DOE found CSD to have excellent staff and that the students in the special education program are served very well. The findings particularly noted the shared ownership and beneficial inclusionary practices between the general education and special education programs. A host of other commendations were also noted, including the district’s successful implementation of its Social Cognition Program, as well as its collaboration with a variety of local agencies and resources to benefit students.
