District Wellness Committee Launches Nutritious Eating Campaign

In order to showcase the importance of eating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, the District Wellness Committee will host “5 a Day the Color Way,” a district-wide event to encourage nutritious eating habits.

Please join us April 11–15, 2011 as we celebrate colorful nutrition with “the color of the day.” All students and staff are encouraged to wear the following colors on the following schedule:

Monday, April 11—Red
Tuesday, April 12—Yellow and Orange
Wednesday, April 13—White
Thursday, April 14—Green
Friday, April 15—Blue and Purple

In addition, all schools in the district will participate in a variety of activities in order to learn and share information about the benefits of proper nutrition.

Porters Point and Union Memorial schools will hold a fruit-and-vegetable food drive to benefit local food shelves. Fresh and canned fruits and vegetables are requested.

Malletts Bay School students will attempt to eat five fruits and vegetables each day, to include all colors of the rainbow by the end of the week.

At Colchester Middle School, all students and staff will share fruits and vegetables across the color spectrum, exploring the health benefits associated with eating them.

Students at Colchester High School will view a student-created video about healthy eating habits, while members of the Art Club (http://www.csdvt.org/chs/main/activities/artclub.php) will create colorful food posters.

Please join us in celebrating colorful nutrition. For more information, please visit http://www.csdvt.org/wellness or contact Wellness Coordinator Connie Gavin at gavinc@csdvt.org.
